Cool 4 Cats!

This week I have been assisting a Mr Jamie Brown and Jiggery Pokery paint the outside of the Old Blue Last pub on Curtain road. Becks have commissioned art inspired by music, and this piece was inspired by Love Cats, by the Cure. We painted 4 cats: a tiger, a panther, a snow leopard and a cheetah. Miaow!

Progress - the result

These are the pieces I exhibited at Progress. They are abstract illustrations in response to newspaper headlines about people affected by the recession. I (painfully) made loads of 3D shapes out of paper and arranged them in a way which illustrated the rise and fall of one man in Essex who lost his job as a paper doilies factory manager, having to give up his £60K household income and survive on £60.50 a week. The other was a representation of the glamourous life of Vegas showgirls working at the Tropicana casino who lost their jobs when the casino was forced to turn off all its' lights forever.

Anderson M - workshop 18.02.09

Anderson M came to Bath and directed a workshop with about 20 of us third years. It was really useful! We chose a headline from a newspaper and had to create a poster using the text and any found imagery. I had some fun with a scanner and Photoshop, and used my black foam letters. 

If only....

A lecture poster - if we could invite anyone. This is the first in what I hope to be a series.... Paper shapes and hand-made stencil type.

Prints

Some screenprints of a pattern originally designed by artist Sonia Delaunay. I intend to make a 2D dress using this pattern and photograph someone wearing it for an imaginary lecture poster. Thanks to Joe (1995) for helping me loads with the printing! 

A journey - San Francisco and Las Vegas

In February 2008 I went on a trip to San Francisco and Las Vegas. These are some drawings I did, using the American flag as my colour range. I wanted the drawings to be simple and sketch-like, to connote the impression of taking notes whilst travelling around the cities.

CD - Seal

I went to San Francisco last February and after visiting the beautiful bay area, I developed a fondness for the seals. Inspired by them and their beautiful surroundings, I designed a twelve-page CD booklet. These are my favourite pages.

Animals of the Gyre - Graphic Novel

These are photographs of pages taken from the graphic novel I created during my second year. It was called Animals of the Gyre. It was inspired by an article I read in Vice magazine about an island of rubbish floating in the Pacific Ocean, somewhere between Japan and Hawaii. I created images based on what creatures I imagined would be living on this island: the Gyre.
